CRTS - Children Right To Sight

Rotary Club of Kasr El Nile (RCKEN) - Club Services committee - supported a medical Caravan on Thursday, July 26th , 2007 Borg El Arab-Alexandria; Egypt. The medical team was a group of well organized, professional and dedicated doctors volunteering their time and effort for the prevention of blindness. RCKEN members were joined by the rotaractors of Kasr El Nile.

I was amazed from the field statistics shared by the medical caravan team ; The doctors inspected 153 patients, 30% of those patients were young children, from the boys and girls inspected 4 were referred to Abu El Reesh for immediate surgery, 4 parents were made aware that their children need eye glasses for sight correction and 21% of all children had some sort of allergy or eye infection.

Since pictures speak louder than words, I uploaded this short documentary for you to watch …..

About CRTS program
The Children's Right to Sight Program (CRTS) was chosen by the Rotary Club of Kasr El Nile for Year 07/08 ; The Children Right To Sight -CRTS- program is for eradicating blindness amongst children.

The program builds on KEN's previous experience from a similar project called Right To Sight (RTS), the project was successfully carried out several years ago, and the club was able to obtain a matching grant from Rotary Foundation; We are now capitalizing on our previous experience and success with more focus on children and infants and thus we chose the name CRTS;

CRTS program will involve supporting trained personnel and doctors capable of doing refraction, identification and initial treatment of most common eye conditions. It will also provide screening in the rural community with emphasis on children’s vision.

Rotary club of Kasr El Nile will also financially support children requiring immediate eye surgery but can not afford the operation cost or the waiting time associated with public hospitals.
